I am still writing the TWT as Niki will be gone until August, so you are stuck with me! Niki and Rob each have their own blog about their trips, the links will be down in a later section, read on to find them!
I cannot believe that summer is already a month in. It seems like just yesterday we were all at Rockford having a great time and recovering from finals. I hope everyone has been enjoying their summers, and let the good vibes roll! The weather out here has been perfect for racing, training, and frisbeeing (if that is a word) and we are doing plenty of each!
There is a decent amount new this week and lots of pictures, so read on to find out the incredible things our athletes have done in the past month! I will most likely post after Sylvania in 2 weeks again! Cheers!
On July 5th, three of our athletes competed in the MERICA! 5M Trail Run in Shorewood, IL. Michael Knudson won and Nour Alharithi came in third, while Emmy Makridakis ran her best 5 Mile time ever and was the third female!! The best picture from that race is up above and as you can see they took the race very seriously..... The results can be found in this link below!
2. Wolverine Sprint Triathlon
This Sunday, 7 of our athletes competed at the Wolverine Sprint Triathlon up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was a very hilly course that featured a long bike, a long swim, and a patch of potholes on the bike going down a big hill that all we could do was pray not to flat on. Good news, we didn't! But the guy who was in 3rd place did, oops! Overall, it was a very difficult course, but it was a lot of fun! Our guys team came in first place and so did our girls!!! It was a great race for us!
A big shout out goes to my friend at U Mich who housed us the night before! The results are located at the link below if you are interested! Also there is a slideshow with all of the pictures from the race. Thank you to Allie for coming along to support us and take pictures!!! BTW there were 69 racers ;)
Canada, eh?? On the same day as our sprint race, two of our athletes competed in Ironman Canada up in Whistler, BC. It is crazy to think that our little sprint race was barely even 1/6th of their race, but they put themselves to the test and both came out successful. Richard Barbara and William Lassman both conquered the tough course, and their times were impressive! Especially their swim times, when they came out just 15 seconds apart from each other!
NU Triathlon could not be prouder to have a new Ironman as a recent alum, and a TWO TIME Ironman as another. You guys make us so thrilled to do what we do, and we can only hope to accomplish a similar feat in the future!
Results are posted at the link below, and if you want to know how hard the course was, the best biker in the field went 19.7 MPH on the last bike split. That must've been brutal!
Congrats to everyone on a great MECTC race this weekend! As of right now, the girls have 190 points and the guys have 200 in 2 races. This sets us up very well in our conference, so let's keep the good vibes flowing!
Our next race will be the Sylvania Triathlon on Sunday, August 10th, in Sylvania, OH. The sign ups for this race will be coming out in an email shortly so don't miss it! It is an olympic distance race, but is a favorite of kids on this team so it should be a fun one!
Note that workouts will still be posted on the website weekly!
If you are interested in racing at Nationals next year (April 2015), you must do at least 1 Olympic or sprint distance MECTC summer race! Nationals is an AMAZING experience and a great way to connect with the team! I HIGHLY encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity!
If you are interested in earning a draft legal spot feel free to contact me or anyone else on exec!
2. Summer Activities
If you are not yet on the summer listserv and still would like to be, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org so I can add you to the listserv. We organize workouts, dinners, fun times on there, so if you are cool and you are around, you should be on it!
We continuously post in the FB group as well! If you are home or here, and you did something fun, workout related or not, we want to hear about it! No matter if it is a #twtcontest contestant or not, I know that at least I want to know what is going on in your life, so post and tell us
3. Summer Travels
As I mentioned previously, Niki and Rob are both off on excursions in different parts of the world with the GESI program. Since I want to know what they are doing, I follow their blog, and you should too! It is really exciting to see the cool pictures they post and hear about how it is to live, work, and even train in a different world!! Here are their blogs and the countries that they are in! Feel free to email me if you have any questions about GESI or about the blog in general.

2. Need new Equipment?
Are you looking to buy a bike, new running shoes, or a new aero helmet? Are you an idiot like me who forgot his running shoes at Rockford and had to run Wolverine in shoes with regular laces? Don't be like me and email someone on Exec to help you out! We all have tons of experience buying things and can help you too!
Even in the summer we are still going strong! Bar Louie is still every Tuesday night. Pay attention to the Facebook Page or the summer listserv to see when most people are going for dollar beers. Also, remember that you do NOT need to be 21 to come, it is a normal restaurant!
2. Hanging out
If you are around this summer, for the whole time or even just a few days, come hang out with us! After work and working out, most of us usually have some time left in the day and have nothing to do! Don't let us be lonely, email the summer listserv or post on the Facebook group to see who else is free!
